The Mysterious Origins of the Jenish People

There ARE an itinerant people who live between Germany, Switzerland, and France called the Jenish. They have lived between Germany, Switzerland and France for a very long time. Records mention them in the 17th century but some believe they have been in this area since the 13th century. They have been persecuted for as long as they have been around which would included being the victims of Nazi murder in Germany and government sponsored abduction of children in Switzerland. Despite this; they have never gone away, lost their sense of self, and disappeared despite the authorities attempts to make it so.
But, their origins are a bit of a mystery. When in doubt, go to Wikipedia. This is what it says about these tenacious people.
"The Yenish (German: Jenische; French: Yéniche, Taïtch) are an itinerant group in Western and Central Europe who live mostly in Germany, Austria, Switzerland,[3]Luxembourg, Belgium, and parts of France, roughly centered on the Rhineland. The origins of the Yenish are unknown, though a number of theories for the group's origins have been proposed, including that the Yenish descended from members of the marginalised and vagrant poor classes of society of the early modern period, before emerging as a distinct group by the early 19th century. "
I will cut to the ending of this story. American descendants of the Jenish that immigrated to America exist in the Gypy-Jewish continuum. I know this because when I tested 40 of my relatives in America, the entire group had Western European + Jewish + Romani DNA. I wondered if this was true of the Jenish people who never left Europe. Were they Gypsy Jews as well? To find out, we tested Jenish people who still live in Europe. Below you will find the results.

Je vais aller droit au but. Les descendants américains des Yéniches qui ont immigré en Amérique existent dans le continuum gitan-juif. Je le sais parce que lorsque j'ai testé 40 de mes proches en Amérique, l'ensemble du groupe présentait un ADN d'Europe occidentale + juif + rom. Je me suis demandé si c'était également le cas des Yéniches qui n'ont jamais quitté l'Europe. Étaient-ils aussi des Juifs gitans ? A Complex Ancestry
What is clear about the Jenish is they have a complex ancestry, formed over the centuries through the interaction with other itinerant populations, Sinti and Jews included. Our language reflects this mixed ancestry, and by testing 10 European Jenish, we have the opportunity to see if our DNA matches our suggested history.
